Overview
The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma is a three-year professional nursing program that prepares students to provide comprehensive healthcare services to individuals, families, and communities. The course focuses on developing critical nursing skills, clinical competence, and a compassionate approach essential for effective patient care in a variety of healthcare settings.
The GNM curriculum covers core subjects including nursing fundamentals, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing, and midwifery. It also includes training in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and nutrition. Practical sessions and clinical postings are a vital part of the course, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in hospitals and healthcare centers.
Emphasis is placed on professional ethics, patient communication, emergency response, and holistic caregiving. The program also trains students to handle labor and delivery cases, provide postnatal care, manage minor ailments, and assist in surgeries and therapeutic procedures.
After successful completion of the GNM diploma, graduates are eligible to register as Registered Nurses and Midwives (RNRM) and can pursue careers in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, schools, community health projects, and NGOs. The diploma also serves as a pathway for advanced studies such as Post Basic B.Sc Nursing or B.Sc Nursing for career growth in nursing education, administration, or specialization.
